The Tangent

The Tangent is the board design that Kelly consistently relied on in 2008 to get the job done during his 9th world title run with wins in solid surf at Fiji, J-Bay, and Trestles. In 2009 he won the WCT in Brazil on this board. It consists of single concave and comes with the popular and versatile squash tail or Kelly’s preferred round pin tail. During the 2008 quest for a ninth world title, Kelly and Al basically went off on “a tangent” when it came to board design. They tried many formulas which involved one single constant, the rocker. They manipulated countless variables in design: vee bottoms, concaves, shrinking down the size and widening the board up, changing tail temps, fin angles, and fin clusters all depending on the wave to be surfed. During 2010, Kelly has been experimenting with vee bottoms on The Tangent and really liking the feel, went on to design the Semi-Pro in late 2010. As of 2011 this board is CUSTOM ONLY
Ride this board 1″ to 3″ longer than you are tall.
