Dane Reynolds X Kid Creature

How’s this for humbling? Meet eleven-year-old Cal Saxton – a Costa Mesan surfer who creates art and donates to charity. Growing up with bad asthma, Cal knows what it’s like to experience laboured breathing – something that can be especially debilitating if you’re a surfer. So when Cal heard about a group of young surfers who suffer from Cystic Fibrosis, he kicked into gear.

Cal’s site, Kid Creature, sells t-shirts bearing his artworks on them – so he’s decided to donate 10 per cent of all sales profit to Cystic Fibrosis research. It’s a win/win, ’cause the tees are sick. Dane even rocked one of the shirts during the Trestles Hurley Pro awards ceremony (a move that could easily cost a pro their career). Dane doesn’t hesitate to sing the kid’s praise:

“I met him at Julian’s (Scratching The Surface) premiere and a few times since then, and I was stoked on his deal. Most kids are trying to get sponsored and throwing tantrums when they lose their NSSA heats. It’s sick that he’s drawing creatures and making shirts and donating the proceeds.”
