Favorite time of the day (or evening) in Mexico. When the wind switches offshore, and there's time for one more. @puntaconejoresort
Much love to Sandro. Always tough to lose a community surfer, especially far too soon. You could see how loved he was by the amount of friends from each #southbay highschool attendance. Amazing job done by those who facilitated this celebration. There was an epic moment when the sun came out during the eulogies on the beach before the paddle out. Felt like a warm smile. See you in the surf Sandro :)
Hello world. I want to do one last follow up on the @americanair situation that went on. @cisurfboards and I are so stoked from the positive outcome. We are very thankful and grateful for everyone's help. We will be donating a portion of the board re-imbursement to my favorite non-profit @jimmymillerfoundation in honor of your engagement. I will also be getting the broken boards fixed to sign and giveaway through my Instagram. Finally, I have an inquiry into the next step of going after the big picture of all airlines surfboard excess policies. It's a beast, but I think there's a chance collectively to make a change. Happy surfing everyone, and see you out there.
#Americanairlines has replied, and I give them two thumbs up! @americanair will re-imburse ALL damaged @cisurfboards and the @onamission bag. They are also returning the excess baggage fee. The airlines was aplologetic while acknowledging their negligence, and agrees the boards were most likely run over. I'd like to commend AA for handling this situation appropriately. Most of all I'd like to thank all of YOU for your engagement. It's amazing to see the positive side of social media bring like-minded people together in stance of a fair result. Moving forward, I am positive the reply to this circumstance will hold as the example for all surfers in the future. Again thank you all. Let's get ready for more surf adventures :)
The first response from #americanairlines thanks to @grindtv. It's from an email address MediaRelations@AA.com which is not an email given to the passenger to respond to within American Airlines damaged baggage claim protocol. Now, to the best of my knowledge, I have NOT received any direct contact from @americanair via phone, email, mail, or social media. American Airlines has all of this information of mine. Thank you American Airlines for saying sorry to the media about my surfboards, but I personally am still waiting for a response from you. In short, NO I have still not heard from American regarding my broken surfboards claim. I also believe my followers are still waiting for responses to over 2,000 comments they've left on your Instagram. We see you are doing new posts, but not responding to this issue #americanairlinesbreakssurfboards. We the surf community are trying our best to wait patiently for your answer to my board destruction, and your overall excess baggage policy review. Again that email address is MediaRelations@AA.com if any of you would like to write them. Thanks again to all who are covering this story and also responding with your personal stories of surfboard destruction. It's time for a change!
In other news.... Stoked to win Go Pro Of The World!!!! Even with a mis-spelled name Thanks @gopro @surfline for putting on a fun annual event. Thanks to my mom @lgray54 for my first GoPro for Christmas a few years ago :) Thank you to @nuttynulty for always having a GoPro ready for our Turkeymelt.com adventures. See this wave and others in our Turkeymelt Africa edit "Tracking The Muse" at the link in my bio. Cheers!
It hurts to hear them, but I appreciate everyone's stories they've shared regarding airlines surfboard damage and unfair excess bag policies. It's crazy to hear how often poor surfboard baggage handling occurs, and the price that was paid to do so. I'm doing my best to represent all surfers with boards destroyed by corporate airlines after paying for their inconsistent excess bag policies. Let's hope for a long overdue change! Here is a bit of my interview on @ktla5news, with the entire interview link in my bio. All of your posts and comments are working to grab the attention of the media! Please continue sharing them. As for my current damage claim of 5 surfboards with @americanair, it's day 6 and I have not heard anything back. And a bit surprised they haven't responded to any of your over 1,000 comments on their Instagram.... 🤔 I'll let you know when I hear about my claim. Thanks everyone. And again thank you #ktla @markmester for your help :)
@ktla5news is covering my #americanairlinesbreakssurfboards story at 9:30 am PST. Thank you @markmester for continuing awareness in hopes of a positive answer to an unfair excess baggage policy and unacceptable handling. Also thank you to everyone for your comments and relatable board destruction stories directed @americanair. It's time for a change, and we the surf community are ready!
Thank you all for your comments, re-posts, and DM's regarding my @americanair board destruction. After seeing my previous video post go viral, it's very apparent this isn't about me, it's about US. This is about the surfers who love to travel and expect their boards to be handled with care after paying hundreds for them in excess. Seems like it's happened to all of us at some point. Yes, 4 of 5 boards of mine were broken. Yes there is a black residue on two of them which appears to be from a tire. Yes one of them was broken in half from the middle and put on the bottom of the bag where I didn't pack it. And yes, that means my bag was opened and re-arranged. But what stings the most is #americanairlines charged me $150 in excess fees to allow this destruction. I paid for all of this! Why is other sporting equipment free?! On a happy note.... thanks to all of you, I have an incredible following of passionate, positive humans. I will do everything I can to use my platform in hopes of a change for once in this ongoing "surfboards VS airlines" dilemma. I will update you as my claim is processed. Hopefully that's sooner than later. Again thank you all for everything. Please continue commenting on @americanair Instagram as I believe that's the most powerful response. And feel free to use this hashtag #americanairlinesbreakssurfboards to tell any of your stories similar to mine.
