Marketing Manager

The Marketing Manager is a critical role within the Channel Islands Surfboards leadership team.  Located at the company’s headquarters in Carpinteria, California and reporting to the General Manager, the Marketing Manager will be responsible for overseeing global brand awareness, consumer engagement, and growth of the sport while enhancing consumer experiences to help drive profitability.  The role will provide marketing leadership by developing multi-channel (wholesale, distributor, direct to consumer) go to market strategies resulting in sustainable long-term growth, maximum revenue, profit, and market share for Channel Islands.

What You Get To Do:  

  • Create short and long-term strategies and activation plans for key brand stories.
  • Interface with product managers regarding sales, product issues and opportunities for accounts in the channel.
  • Develop and support annual and quarterly targets.
  • Develop and manage product launches from conception to activation.
  • Accurately manage forecasts and budgets.
  • Oversee and develop digital marketing strategies and activation.
  • Evaluate marketplace capacity, market share availability, and consumer demand.
  • Oversee events and team management.
  • Oversee the development of point of purchase displays and in-store exhibits and collateral.
  • Participate in product development to relay product needs for each channel.

 What You’ll Bring to the Team:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or another appropriate field.
  • Candidate must have 5-7 years of direct brand marketing experience.
  • Experience in both consumer and customer (retailer) sectors, ideally within surfboard or action sport and lifestyle industry.
  • This position requires an understanding of the needs, trends, fashions etc. of the company’s core consumer as well as the competitive market.
  • This could be achieved either through prior work experience or individual participation in the sport.

The Breakdown:

Are you user-centric?  Do you view the source of pages you visit to see how the developers did it?  Do you know why HTML5 and CSS3 are awesome?  Do you embrace the challenge of presenting exciting user interfaces to people on an ever-widening array of devices?  Can you talk about what you do to people who aren’t technical?  We are looking for a design-centric Web Developer that can turn wireframes and inspiring design into dialed interactive experiences. Come be a key part of the in-house Operations Team that creates CI’s various web and mobile properties.

What You Get To Do: 

  • Responsible for the look, layout, usability, and visual consistency of the CI website and e-commerce platform.
  • Design, develop, and troubleshoot web applications.
  • Conceptualize, design, and implement a range of deliverables across both digital and print platforms including websites, mobile applications, email and web graphics, and identity design.
  • Create exciting user interfaces to customers on all platforms with responsive design.
  • Use advanced and modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to render pages for the end user.
  • Talk about functionality, requirements, and technical solutions to people who aren’t technical.
  • Work as a team with people from other departments to help them accomplish their web goals.
  • Design and maintain a collaboration experience for end user.

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

  • A Bachelor’s degree, UI/UX skills, great written and verbal skills.
  • A zest and desire to oversee an entire website and look for ways to improve the site at all times. 
  • 1-2 years of experience developing and maintaining customer-facing websites.Experience building front-end applications with JavaScript, ES5/6, and AngularJS (NodeJS a plus).
  • Proficient in design and coding environments.
  • The ability to learn new skills quickly and to turn ideas into action and accomplish results.
  • Advanced WordPress, Shopify, responsive design, and API knowledge.
  • Experience with A/B testing is a plus.
  • Modern JavaScript programming patterns such as client-side MVC, dynamic resource loading, prototypal inheritance, JSONP, etc.…
  • Experience in a server-side environment like Java
