    Hello !

My local dealer got semi pros and fred rubbles, and I’m going to buy one of those two boards. I have watched video’s of evan geiselman on semipro (wow !!!) and i wonder which of the two boards suits best in average surf from waist to head and a half waves, for an average surfer ? Are those two boards so differents ? Aren’t they both made for carve and airs in average surf ?

    • CI Surfboards02-27-12

Your SP should have slightly less volume that your DD.
at your size and intermediate level – look for a Semi Pro or SP12 from 25L to 27L

    • CI Surfboards02-28-12

      Mal,
Your DD is 27.8L and geared toward a 180 to 190lb expert.
      That same person would ride
      SEMIPRO 61 x 19 1/8 x 2 3/8 28.1
      SP12 61 x 19 1/8 x 2 3/8 28.6
      SP12 62 x 19 x 2 3/8 FCS 28.8
or check out http://cisurfboards.com/suggested_boards.php for all the volumes

I was watching the first round of the snapper contest today and saw kelly getting shacked out of his mind but the board he was riding is not in this photo???

It was a fred rubble round pin with a white logo. Did he decided to add other boards to the list?

Also would it be possible to show a photo of the bottom of the boards in the future? It is the best view to see the outline!

    thanks

    (reply)
    • CI Surfboards02-29-12

      Hey John,
Yes very possible, our contest-specific quiver photos are of the boards that we make just before and intended for that contest. Often times the athlete will be carrying 1 or 2 additional bags of “magic” boards that they have been riding for weeks or months prior.

    hi,
i was wondering what are the effects on the board with having a squash tail or a round pin, and how i can benefit from one feature or the other?

    cheers

    (reply)
    • Daniel03-04-12

It really depends on the dementions

      (reply)
    • CI Surfboards03-05-12

RP will have slightly less area allowing the tail to sink easier. Better for barrels and rail surfing. Squash tail will feel looser and slide easier.

  14. Harry03-03-12

Great work with you’re new “Board Selector”. It is a fantastic feature for a website, but I do think you should maybe define “Beginner”, “Intermediate”, and “Advanced” as I think everyone has their own opinions (I would assume your team riders are “Advanced” and therefore place myself in “Internediate”). Maybe 1-2 manovers that someone should be able to perform for each level things like Angled take off, high-line pumping, carving S-turns, vertical turns, tube riding, etc.

    • CI Surfboards03-05-12

Harry thanks for the feedback, precisely why the selector is in BETA we will take your ideas into consideration.

Ke11y’s riding wider noses and 5 fin setups because hecan paddle faster with a wider nose and gets more turns with his nubster and 4 fins, And by the wat I’m only 9

  19. Perry03-07-12

    Hi CI,

I am 165 pounds and 5’10 and currently riding the Semi Pro 6’1 x 18 5/8 x 2 1/4. The Board feels just perfect for the waist to 2-3 foot overhead range.
In addition I am looking for a step-up board for medium waves (starting at around 2-3 foot overhead to double overhead). In terms of the models I was thinking of the semi pro again.. or the SP 12 – both coming with a pin tail and quad option. It should be a boards for various conditions with a bit more paddling power (for France /Spain / Portugal)
    Which measures would you suggest? I had something around a 6’4 x 18 3/4 x 2 5/16 on my mind..Do you suggest using thicker glassing on step-ups?

    Thanks,
    Perry

    (reply)
    • CI Surfboards03-07-12

      Perry,
We suggest “standard” layup on your step-up (6+4/4)
Your model and dims choices look pretty good.
For reference team riders usually keep the same width in order to keep that same shortboard feeling rail-to-rail.
The SP12 will have a slightly wider nose which helps with paddling. Make sure to indicate the board is a step up so the shaper pulls the tail in slightly.

    HOw do i order a custom sp12?

    (reply)

Danel, If you are in Jacksonville you can either go into Surf N Skate or travel down to Surf Station in St Augustine.

      (reply)
  21. Daniel03-07-12

well i live in jacksonville Florida so how could i get sponsored by you guys

    (reply)
    • CI Surfboards03-07-12

      Daniel,
We have a limited # of people we can support through sponsorship as we commit to getting our team the best boards and service globally. This is why many professional surfers including those on the WCT choose to buy the boards as there is simply no room left on the team.
You are welcome to e-mail [email protected] with video and contest results to see if there is potential for future sponsorship when a spot opens up.
Another option is you can be a “shop team” though your local CI dealers where you get a discount, but that is up to the manager at the shop.

    • CI Surfboards03-11-12

      Daniel,
Apologies for the delays! I guess we though those where more rhetorical.
Spot on the team – For a Florida Factory rider spot there would be a chance spot if you are consistently getting pictures in the magazines and websites or winning all the contests in your area.
We really look for those that are pushing board design.
Meeting Kelly is a tough one, your best bet would be to go to one of the ASP contests.

    Hey CI,

    What would the volumes be for a SP12 6’0 x 19″ x 2 7/16 and 6’0 x 19″ x 2 1/2? Do you think these dimensions would work?
    I’m 5’10″ 188lb

    (reply)
    • CI Surfboards04-20-12

      Eric,
      SP12 6.0 19.0 2.4375 – 28.4L
      SP12 6.0 19.0 2.5 – 29.1L
You would need to order custom boards through your local dealer, or you can order direct online / phone through many of our accounts.
At 188 you are going to want to keep your volume right around 30L for intermediate 28L would work for advanced.

I’m looking for a short board that I can ride a couple inches shorter than my normal board that will still hold in punchy surf. Would you recommend the semi pro 12?

    (reply)
    • CI Surfboards05-14-12

      Matt,

The SP12 is exactly that. It should end up around your same height if you are average build.
Should also be about 1/4 or wider than your old shorty

  33. Nico01-17-13

    Hi,
    What’s the volume for a :
    -SP12 5’11 x 18 1/2 x 2 1/4 squash?
    -SP12 5’11 x 18 1/2 x 2 5/16 squash?
