Dane Reynolds’ Quiver for The Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast 2012

February 24, 2012 / Dane Reynolds, Quivers

Dane Reynolds' Quiver for The Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast 2012

From left to right:

  1. 6’0″ x 19 x 2 5/16″ DFR swallow tail
  2. 5’11″ x 18 7/8″ x 2 3/8″ Fred Rubble squash tail
  3. 5’11″ x 18 7/8″ x 2 3/8″ Test board
  4. 5’7 1/2″ x 19 1/2″ x 2 5/16″ Neck Beard squash
  5. 5’8″ x 18 3/4″ x 2 5/16″ Pear (Dane shape)

All boards are Future Fins tri fin set up. The DRF is a new model Dane and Channel Islands may release soon. With incredible feedback and a heap of great video footage logged by Dane and even a good contest result by Evan G (second at manly event), this board is getting closer to reality for the public. Dane would like to make sure the board is exactly where he feels it should be before release, so he has chosen to continue testing slight changes to improve it even more.

hello CI guys, I have a question. I ride a 5.6 x 19 1/2 x 2 1/4 Dumpster diver. I want to know what dimension should I ride on a proton, MTFa and a fredd rubble, because I want to buy all of those this year. Im having a trouble deciding which first a proton or a fredd rubble. thanks for your help

      Bruno,
Your 5’6″ DD has about 26.6L of volume. Ideal for a pro surfer at 170lbs.
Based of the same volume a 170lbs expert would ride
      Proton 6’0 x 18 3/8 x 2 3/16 (25.0L) or 6’1 x 18 5/8 x 2 1/4 (26.4L)
      Rubble 5’10 x 18 7/8 x 2 1/4 (25.9L)
MTFa does not have volumes available at this time, but you should look at a 5’8″ x 19 x 2 1/4

    CI surfboard,
what size do I ride for a 6 foot 180lbs intermediate surfer, for north county san diego waves, looking to progress fast. I was thinking about the fred rubble for most of the fun days and neck beard for small surf days. thanks a bunch.

      Hey Steve,
      Our handy dandy indicator says 61 x 19 1/4 x 2 7/16 29.9L or 61 x 19 3/8 x 2 7/16 30.1L

whens the DFR coming to the public?????

    (reply)
    • CI Surfboards02-28-12

Hey Brendan, We don’t know just yet. It all depends on the feedback from Dane Freakin Reynolds! We figure at least one more round of tweaks.

    Hey Ci,

Is the DFR a normal shortboard or what?

    (reply)
    • CI Surfboards02-28-12

      Hey Kalum,
The DFR is still in development and there has been no date set for release (if ever). The team who is testing it are riding them about their same length or 1″ shorter and a little wider.

    CI Bros,

I really like the tail on that neckbeard. I’m 5’9″ 175lbs. dim recommendations? Can those tails be customed ordered? Looks like it would work perfect for me here in S. FL.

    • CI Surfboards03-02-12

      Garrett,
Pretty much anything can be custom ordered, it is what we do. Best to submit a pic of that board with your order to be sure we use the same exact template

Hi, checking volumes of the 5’8 and 5’9 in stock dims, looks strange to me that 5’9 only increase 0.700 liters with an increase in length, width and thick. Does it means that the 5’9 is more foil out compared to the 5’8?
    Cheers!

    (reply)
    • CI Surfboards03-05-12

      David,
What model are you referring to? Foils should remain the same relative to each other on the same model. .7L is quite a jump for a small board

Hi i’m italian i’ve always used channel island surfboards .
    i’m 6.1 x 80 kg 40 years old i’m an intermediate surfer ( small air ,360 , good roundhouse , off the lip etc.) i’ve used for 2 years a flyer 6.1 x 19 1/2 X 2 1/2.
after a DD 5,10 and a neck beard 5.8 . the DD is too big and the NB a little small what you suggest to me .
    thank you

Even though the DFR isn’t realised can you still custom order one
    Thanks
    Elias

    • CI Surfboards03-15-12

      Elias,

As we are a custom board builder, we can build you anything really.
We would have to put a prototype logo on it as the design is still in progress. The lead time would be a little longer than the standard 6 to 8 weeks.

    CI,
The tail on the Neck Beard looks slightly less rounded than the squash tail in this photo. But definitely more rounded than the original. Is it just the angle of the photo? That’s the exact tail I’m looking for. If it’s different, is it something that can be custom ordered?
    Thank you!

    (reply)
    • CI Surfboards03-27-12

      Travis,
We can custom anything you like, and yes the stock NB squash on the racks does look less drawn in than Dane’s in the photo. Reference this photo (best if you print and submit) and we can have the same shaper template this tail on your custom no problem.

      Check this http://cisurfboards.com/suggested_boards.php
You would be better off getting a 7 foot hybrid or funshape, but if you want the coolest looking board try a NKBEARD 59 x 19 7/8 x 2 7/16 30.4 liters
order it from a dealer here http://cisurfboards.com/find-a-dealer

Hi Guys – I’m from RSA & surf mainly beach breaks. I’m a fit 40 year old intermediate surfer, a touch over 6ft & weigh 165 pounds. I had the DD – 5.9 19 3/4 & 2 3/8 but thought it was a bit small at 1st because i came from std short boards, so I sold it before really getting into it & have now consider the sightly bigger version – 5:10 19 7/8 2 7/16. I enjoy a loose board & after going through you board indicator, I’m concerned that maybe the bigger option maybe too big & harder to turn/snap. Hope you can advise. Cheers

    Hello CI
I have always liked your models and think your boards are very well shaped. I live in Australia and near you headquarters at Onboard Industries. I currently ride an MK99 5’9 x 17 x 2 and like it alot. I was wondering about an all round shortboard like a Fred Rubble, Rookie, Cheesestick. I surf anything from onshore slop to perfect 4ft barrels. Hope you can advise.

    P.S I am 5’0ft and weight 38kg (73 pounds).
    Thankyou

    • CI Surfboards05-03-12

      Noach,
you are pretty light, so you will likely have to order custom. We woudl suggest something about 5’6″ and your current dims or perhaps 17 1/4
      http://cisurfboards.com/suggested_boards.php
The Rubble and Rookie will be more all-around
The Cheesestick best in beachbreaks and for airs

I was looking to order a rookie and a D Diver and a friend of mine had suggested trying out a 1x5oz & 1x4oz top with a 4oz bottom. I have ridden heavier boards before, but know that lost of shops are offering the 5oz coats now. How much heavier would this make a board? big difference in feel? im 5’10” 145 and looking at a 5 10 rookie and a 5 4 d diver. Would love a stronger board that doesnt feel like a brick.
    thanks

    (reply)
    • CI Surfboards05-09-12

      Justin,
“Brick” is relative as one man’s light is another man’s heavy.
      But
5oz is really 5oz x 4oz weave, so adds about 1oz per yard in weight, your board would stand to gain approx 3oz in weight after lam.
5’10″ Rook and 5’4″ Diver in UL (all 4oz) average about 5 1/2 lbs, so you would be adding about 1/4 lb, or less than 10% overall.

Hey CI, not sure which tail to get for a neck beard.. The square or the squash? which is better?

    (reply)
  22. Adam05-10-12

Actually the option is more rounded then a squash. Is it better & different then the square?

    thanks again CI

    (reply)
    • CI Surfboards05-11-12

Adam – Better is a judegement reserved for the surfer. The wide square will feel skatey, while the Squash offers more bite, just depends on what you like.

Hi what is the volume of Dane’s Rubble 5’11 x 18 7/8 x 2 3/8? Are those dims are customs?

    (reply)
    • CI Surfboards11-12-12

      Yan,
      RUBBLE 5.11 18.875 2.375 – 27.7L
That dim is over 1/8 on a stock Rubble dimension, so yes custom.
