Kelly Slater’s Quiver for Hawaii 2011
Kelly’s got a 5’5″ Wizard Sleeve to a 6’5″ Semi Pro step up for all the different faces of Pipeline. Looks like they’re going to be off to a quick start tomorrow…
From left to right:
-
5’5″ x 18 1/2″ x 2 1/4″ Wizard Sleeve 4 channel
5’6″ x 18 5/8″ x 2 1/4″ MTF Altered
5’9″ x 18 1/4″ x 2 1/4″ Semi Pro epoxy
5’11″ x 18 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ Deep Six
5’11″ x 18 3/8″ 2 1/4″ Semi Pro step up
6’5″ x 18 1/4″ s 2 1/4″ Semi Pro step up

MTF altered might go pretty well if backdoor gets squirrely. Dane’s surfing in France a couple years back on that thing was unbelievable, good to see Slater trying out yet another school of thought regarding alternative shapes for barrel riding. Can’t wait!
Hey CI guy, thanks for the info. Please explain the bottom contours of the deep six. Also, is the fin placement changed as a result of the shorter rail line, or is it similar to a typical step-up/pin tail board.
There are two versions that Kelly uses, all light single concave to flat exit is the most common, and then there is a version with some slight double between the fins.
Fins are set like you would a 7’0″ gun, meaning they are moved forward to 12″ and 3.5″
Sick! That’s over 6 g’s in some dope boards that Kelly can just shred up if he wants too! LOL How can I apply for a job opening at CI to get the discount? lol J/K
We are hiring…
Yes, I am also pumped to see if Slate uses the MTF. Interesting Sleeve as well. Kinda suprised to not see a Fred Rubble in his quiver. Also, whats the added benefit to the channels on the sleeve?
Channels equal drive and make that small board more positive (stiff) in large surf
Nice boards, that MTF looks a lot like a Robber
By the way, looks like the Deep six can’t hold after that big wipe out, the board hit the reef and snap the tip of the tail away, also kelly went out with some reef scratchs.
Seriously – the guys on more traditional, longer boards looked like they had more flow out there today – John John went richter and much respect to Evan Valiere as well. Was incredible to watch that level of Pipe mastery.
Hey CI guys, cool boards! Do you mind posting the volumes for these boards? My buddy and I have been particularly curious about how the Deep Six and Wizard Sleeve are sized, volume-wise…
workin on it
5’6 Wizard 18 ½ x 2 ¼ = 25.7L
5’11 Deepsix 18 ½ x 2 ½ = 27.6L
Sick, thanks CI guy!
what was kelly riding yesterday? what Fins?
5’11″ Deep 6 with K2.1 Quads
6’5″ Rubble step up thruster not sure which exact fins
that was a rubble? looked old, with that fingerprint paint job from a couple years ago. sure it wasn’t a tangent?
Bob-O – yep that fingerprint was a trusty Tangent
I wish we could see kelly ride all these boards, I would love to seem him free surf on the MTF.
watching him ride the channel bottom today you could see how it changed his surfing

Hi ci, I am 5’7 & 63kg want to get a Fred Rubble in sydney aust. What size should I be looking at ,for advanced level surfer?
would like 5 fin option & rounded pin,can this option be found on the racks?
Cheers & merry xmas Jason
Jason,
I do not believe we are making the round tail 5 fin option for the racks Australia.
But the guys in Mona Vale can make you a custom quickly.
Expert dims for you would be 5’6 x 18 ¼ x 2 1/16 (21.7L)
I just ordered a 6’4 Semi Pro with a rounded pin. Its a step up from my 6’1 Rooke, which is an amazing board, good job Al!
I will be surfing mostly beach breaks and I didn’t specify in my order that it would be a step up. Do you think it matters that much? I sort of want a fuller tail because the waves around where I live do get somewhat hollow but not much and I’d prefer it to be bit looser anyway.
Also, would it be wise to order a 6’8 semipro step up? Or just go for an MSG or Kstep at that point? I am 5’11 and 175lbs.
Mike,
If you didn’t specify step-up, you will likely get a tail 14″+ which will be loose. Should be fine if you are not just surfing barrels.
If you ride the 6’4″ and like how it feels, then go Semi Pro on the 6’8″, but for sure specify step-up at that size.
Are those modified FCS plugs for the channeled board? And are the 5 fin set ups close to the mckee 5 fin placement?
Alex,
The plugs are modified only due to having to sand them down to fit the contours of the channels.
Only the rear two fins of the quads are McKee placement.
hi ci,i m french and want make 2 customs rubble boards but i ve got a big problem cause ci eu will be definitly closed…do you know what happened and how i can do for my boards?
thanks.
Olivier
The same shops will continue to carry the boards. Production has been moved to San Sebastian under the Olatu group. The shapers are trained in Santa Barbara and the designs are all sent direct from santa barbara. You should be able to contact your local dealer and still order the board.
thanks
Hi Al!
I couldn’t fid the deep six in the site list. help me out!
Thanks!
Hey Leo,
Oops, yeah that’s sort of an underground model we never really made for stores, what do you want to know?
hi CI what dimensions whould i get for a squash semi pro if im riding a 5’6 x 18 x 2/16 fred rubble, thanks
Tom – Order it the same dims, just an inch longer
Hey I was wondering how many inches exactly are between to rear quad fins on Kelly,s 5’5 chanell bottom wizard sleeve from the rear of the fin. Looks like 6″ or so
Jim – 4 3/4″
Where/how can I get one of these hand glassed eps/epoxy CI boards?
Any thoughts/opinions on these vs. the standard polys?
I’m really interested in getting one. I would really like to have a reliable backup board in the quiver that’s capable of taking a little more abuse.
Nick,
EPS construction is available through any authorized CI dealer.
Epoxy vs PU is usually a matter of “feel” for the surfer, personal preference
What the nose and tail width of his 5’9 semi pro?
12″ nose – 14 1/4″ tail
Hi CI,
I am looking for an everyday board to fit between my dumpster dive and my 6 ft 6inch, semi gun that I use for bigger days. I am 5 ft 6.5 in, 74 kg and above average fitness. I am an average surfer who surfs around 4 days per week (waves permitting). I really like the look of the semi pro with the five fin setup and pin tail. What dimensions would you recommend for this board and are there any other boards that you would recommend. I live in Sydney and know of a couple of shops close to me that sell your boards of the rack but if I required a custom board is there anyone you would recommend I go too.
Thank you for your advice.
Matt.
Matt,
Look at a custom 5’10 x 18 3/4 x 2 1/4.
You can contact Aloha Surf in Manly 9977 3777 or go directly to the factory in Mona Vale – [email protected]
Hello channel islands, i am looking to buy a neckbeard but do not know the demensions i want. Can you help me out? i’m 100 lbs and 5’4â€. thx
Ethan,
If you are intermediate ability level then go with a custom built 5’2 x 19 X 2 1/8
Hi boys,
Since everyone else is looking for advice, thought I’d take a shot. I’m doing a Mentawais boat trip in a few months and am looking for a new go-to barrel machine to take along. My round pin Tangent (6′ 1″ x 2 1/2 x 19 1/4) has really grown on me, I surfed it in France last year and Hawaii a few weeks ago and it was great. Now I’m thinking of going round pin semi-pro? Never ridden one though. I prefer slightly beefier boards with more paddling power (I’m 5′ 7″ 155lbs). My flyer dims are 6′ 0″ x 19 1/2 x 2 1/4. Mucho gracias -Matt
Matt,
If you like the way your round pin Tangent (6′ 1″ x 2 1/2 x 19 1/4) paddles and surfs, think about a Semi Pro in the same dims. Designed by the same guy afterall, the have similar feels.
Check that.. Flyer dims are 6′ 0″ x 19 1/4 x 2 1/2. Thanks.
Hi CI Surfboards,
I live in OC MD and bought a 6’0 x 19 x 2 3/8 Sashimi. I only have one board and this is it. Average surfer who surfs a few times in the winter and as much as can in summer. I’m 35 yrs. old, 5’10, 154 pds. and a father of 3. Just wanted to know what you all thought. Thank you for your time.
Hi CI
So I am very interested on the wizard sleeve boards. But since they are only to be ordered, I would like to know the volume on the 5’8 versus 5’10.
Thanks a bunch.
Cheers
CI guy,
Just want to chase up some info on the Deep Six.
Standard bottom contours?
Options for having it configured as a 6-channel bottom?…or is it more recommended as with the standard bottom contours.
Looking to throw this board into anything between head high to head high and a half.
At present i ride a 6’2 – 20 1/2 – 2 1/2 Wizard sleeve and comfortably put it into anything just over head high.
If you could throw in some recommended dimensions that’d be magic too.
Thanks a bunch -
Mitch,
Kelly had one with 6 channels this year on the North Shore, which he rode for the first time in his last second heat win over John John.
So yes you can give those a go.
Without knowing why you can’t ride your 6’2″ in o-head (what’s it not doing) hard to give you advice on another size.
CI guy,
Thanks for your reply.
The 6’2 hasn’t failed me so far, it paddles well, makes small days fun and it hasnt yet faltered in surf around head high, but im looking around for a good step-up board to take as a second board to travel this year.
I was looking to the Deep Six as a step-up because of its slightly wider nose and drawn in step-up style tail, and thought that it would be unreal as a step-up because it would potentially paddle really well.
A number of people around me had recommended channel bottom boards and I was wondering what effect the channels have on the board, and whether they work well in a step-up?
And can the board still be configured as a five-fin option with 6 channels, or is it only to be set up as a thruster?
Sorry for bombarding you with questions, just trying to find something unreal.
Mitch
Hi,
I’ve been looking at the MTF Altered models and just wondering what the volume is in the 5’6″ pictured?
CI guy,
Thanks for your reply.

Mitch,
Channels work serve to make the board feel more positive and drivey in powerful waves. The Deep Six was designed as a board for Backdoor and Pipe, Kelly marrying a semi gun back half to a hyrbid front. Your 6’2″ should work in overhead waves, but if you wanted to go a couple inches longer and add channels you could.
Hi,
I’m a novice surfer 5’11″ 83kg looking to buy my first shortboard. A few months back I rented a 6’6 shortboard for a week and loved it. What board and length would you suggest? I will mainly be surfing waves up to a little above head high. I was thinking maybe a Flyer or a Fred Rubble (Though that might be way too advanced for me)?
Thanks,
Chase
hi ci
can you give me the volume of:
rubble 6’2 20 1/2 2 3/4 squash future
rubble 6’4 20 1/4 2 3/4 round pin future fin.
thanks a lot.
olivier
Olivier – We estimate the 6’4″ will be around 35L and the 6’2″ around 34L, let us know if you want these broken down to the tenths and we can drop these into the CAD program.
thanks ci,
no problem,if you can drop these into the CAD program.
i m waiting for your answer.
olivier
rubble 6’2 20 1/2 2 3/4 – 36.9L
rubble 6’4 20 1/4 2 3/4 – 37.4L
Hey CI
I saw a custom made Fred Rubble with Team Glass (S cloth) with the following dimensions: 5’11 x 19 1/4 x 2 7/16. This board is so light and does not seem to be thick at all (compare to my 5’8 wizard sleeve at 2 3/8). What would be the volume on that board?
Thanks
Gugs,
that board should have 29.0L of volume. It sounds like the rails could have been thinned for a team rider so perhaps slightly less, but only half liter or so.
Hey CI dude, You said you guy were hiring, what kind of job are you offering and where would it be in SoCal?
Marcel,
The Cali jobs are all in Santa Barbara. We just hired a laminator and production manager, now I believe we are looking for floor production supervisor, has to know boards super well, shaping experience preferred.

thanks
We have a 4’11″ of his nothing bigger….
What model would that be?
And what dimensions is it?
Thanks
Hey CI,
Just wondering what the volume would be in a 5’9″ x 18′ 3/8 x 2 1/4 Cheese Stick?
Kye, 24L on that Cheese
Hi CI
If a board has been custom ordered at Channel Islands, would you guys be able to retrieve the order by looking at the serial number on the board? I am looking for the exact dimensions on a FR that was custom ordered.
Thank you,
Sure, you could also enter the number in our board tracker and it should show up.
Hey Ci,
What board would you recomend for me surfing small ( but really hollow ) waces? I am 4’10″ ( expert ) and weigh 80-90 lb.
Waves
Seriousle how much of a discount do you get for working there and where do. You guys have shops in new jersey?
