Congratulations to Parker Coffin on his first ASP win on his 5’9″ Semi Pro!

Parker Coffin (Santa Barbara, CA) has won his inaugural ASP Pro Junior victory, taking out the ASP 1-Star Fins Pro Junior while posting the highest heat-total of the entire event in the Final of 15.57 (out of 20) in wind-blown one-to-three foot surf in Belmar, New Jersey.

The Fins Pro Junior’s ASP 1-Star status allows the perfect opportunity for up-and-coming surfers to pick up valuable points to build their ASP North America Pro Junior Series ranking.

Coffin, who finished runner-up at the Fins Pro Junior last year, quietly built momentum over the opening days of competition and eventually roared to life on the Final day, belting the event’s highest single-wave score of 8.33 (out of 10) in his Semifinals heat and went on to take a commanding win in the Final.

“I got second last year so I knew I could win this year if I got good waves,” Coffin said. “It’s so funny because you can’t hear word out in the lineup and I had no idea what my scores were. We were all stressing out there. I’m so fired up on this win though.”

Evan Thompson (Jacksonville, FL) hunted for the ramps on offer compliments of the sideshore winds and surfed exceptionally throughout the entire event, but was unable to stop Coffin in the Final and finished runner-up.

“It was like every man for himself out there,” Thompson said. “No one could really hear and I guess Parker (Coffin) must have gotten some good waves, I’m stoked for him that he won. I was thinking if I was going to do airs, this is the time and the wind was perfect for them. That was my game plan out there.”

Tanner Strohmenger (Deerfield Beach, FL) put on an impressive show in one of his first ASP North America Pro Junior Series events, establishing himself as an emerging East Coast talent and his Final berth marks a perfect start to his 2011-2012 regional ASP Pro Junior campaign.

“I’m stoked to make the Final, it would have been nice to win obviously, but 3rd’s not bad,” Strohmenger said. “I knew they’d be getting two 7’s or two 8’s so I was just trying to do some big turns or airs. I didn’t care if I got 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, I was just going for the win. I’m going to try and do all of the events I can if I can get into them for next year, so I’m stoked.”

Colin Moran (Newport Beach, CA), who posted some of the events top scores, also advanced into his first ASP Pro Junior Final and finished 4th overall. Moran has been building momentum on the regional series and is looking to apply his knowledge in future events.

“This is awesome to make my first ASP Final,” “I didn’t think I’d make the Final, so I’m pretty stoked about that, but there’s many more to come. I feel like I’m building confidence with every contest and you learn different things at each event.”
