Conner Coffin Standout Day 2 of Hurley Pro Junior

January 27, 2011 : – – Gold Coast – International competitors Conner Coffin (Santa Barbra, USA) and Dylan Lightfoot (South Africa) stole the show on day-two of the 2011 Hurley Pro Junior as the competition edges closer to awarding a junior surfing world record USD$25,000 first place prize.

Held in 1m pointbreak waves at the iconic Burleigh Heads on Queensland’s Gold Coast, Coffin looked right at home today scoring an impressive 12.90 (out of a possible 20) in his Round of 128 heat, defeating Beau Junk (Noosa, Qld – 8.50) Saxon Lumsden (Chitttaway Point, NSW – 8.50) and Jake Fawcett (Brekley Vale, NSW – 7.70) who finished second, third and fourth respectively.

“Burleigh is a super fun wave, especially when it runs right along the rocks there. I felt good out there and I made it through the heat without losing my fins so I’m stoked!” said Coffin following his heat.

South African natural footer Lightfoot also impressed in the early rounds, posting a 14.20 (out of a possible 20) defeating Noa Deane (Coolangatta, QLD – 11.75), Will Coy (Crescent Head, NSW – 9.70) and Josh Menger (Maroochydore, QLD – 9.30) who finished second, third and fourth respectively.

A solid spike in swell is expected into the weekend, meaning the contest should remain at the primary location of Burleigh Point, with favourable light winds from the SSE. The Hurley Pro Junior is proudly supported by Hurley, Skull Candy, WAVES, Vertra, Coastalwatch, Surf Dive “n’ Ski, Red Bull, ASP Australasia and Surfing Queensland.
