HUNTINGTON BEACH, California/USA (Monday, January 31, 2011) – American talent Conner Coffin (Santa Barbara, CA), 17, put on an impressive showing at the ASP 6-Star Hurley Pro Junior Burleigh Heads in Australia, surpassing a massive field of international talent as well as Australia’s top ASP Pro Junior surfers to finish equal 3rd overall.
Coffin, who finished equal 14th on his first year on the ASP World Junior Tour, stayed in Australia following the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships and continued to gain priceless international experience at the Hurley Pro Junior Burleigh Heads by capitalizing on his comfort of righthand pointbreaks similar to his hometown of Santa Barbara.
“Burleigh is a super fun wave, especially when it runs right along the rocks there,” Coffin said. “I felt good out there and I made it through the heat without losing my fins so I’m stoked!”
The powerful regular-footer’s consistency at the Hurley Pro Junior was nothing short of amazing. Coffin tore through an impressive 7 rounds of competition, beginning in the event’s opening round of 136 surfers, before being stopped short of a Final berth by eventual event winner Peterson Crisanto (BRA), 18.
Coffin, current No. 4 on the ASP North America Pro Junior Series Rankings, will continue his regional campaign in March at the upcoming ASP 4-Star Vans Pro Junior, which runs alongside the Vans Pier Classic presented by Jack’s Surfboards from March 23rd through 27th, 2011.
